How Do Plate Heat Exchangers Work?

DOLPHIN’s Plate Heat Exchangers from CIPRIANI are designed for maximum heat transfer efficiency.

  • Core Design:
    • Comprised of a series of grooved plates, each individually gasketed and compressed within a robust frame.
    • Fluids enter and exit through portholes located on one or both ends of the frame.
  • Heat Transfer Process:
    • The fluid to be heated or cooled flows down one side of each plate, while the heating or cooling medium flows in the opposite direction on the other side.
    • This counterflow arrangement creates a significant temperature differential, enabling maximum heat transfer with minimal energy loss.
Construction and Operation
  • Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers (BPHEs):
    • Constructed from thin, acid-resistant plates stamped and assembled in alternating orientations.
    • Plates are vacuum-brazed at high temperatures, forming a permanently sealed unit.
    • BPHEs do not use rubber gaskets, enabling them to handle extreme conditions.
